What Is Skin Testing?

Skin testing is a commonly used method to help identify allergic sensitivities. Small amounts of allergens are introduced to the skin to observe whether a reaction occurs.
This type of testing is often used to evaluate:

  • Environmental allergies

  • Certain food allergies

  • Some inhalant triggers

How the Test Works

During the procedure:

  • A small amount of allergen is applied to the skin

  • The skin is gently pricked or exposed

  • The area is observed for a reaction

Results are typically available within a short period of time during the same visit.

Is Skin Testing Safe?

Skin testing is generally safe and performed under medical supervision.
Patients are monitored during the test, and any reactions are managed promptly by trained medical staff.
